Results day 2021 success at Christ the King Sixth Forms

Another great year of results and prestigious university designations for CTK students

Students and staff at Christ the King Sixth Forms celebrated another year of examination results at all three sixth forms, with students overcoming the challenges presented by Covid19 to demonstrate grit and resilience and land top grades and university places.

Lorena Piedrahita-Lopez landed a place at her dream university, Cambridge to study Psychology and was one of only three students to be awarded a CTK Metric Capital scholarship. Lorena is one step closer to her mission to create more equal access to psychological therapies in the UK, after achieving top grades of A*AA in A Level English Literature, Psychology and Law at Christ the King Sixth Form in South London.

Lorena says; “I’d like to go into therapy with a specific aim to teach psychology therapy in Spanish. I believe that therapy in the UK should be available in other languages. I really enjoy helping others and I want to do things in other languages to support my own Latin community here in London. I believe in making small changes in our society which can have a big impact. What drives me is to make our world more inclusive, a little step at a time.”

Commenting on being awarded a CTK Metric Capital scholarship worth £15,000, Lorena adds “When I thought about going away to live and study in Cambridge, I constantly worried about money and the expense involved in moving out of my house. I’m not in a position where my parents can support me consistently while living away.  When I found out I had received the Metric Capital scholarship at CTK it felt like a huge burden had lifted. It helped me make my decision to go to Cambridge. It means that I can focus on my studies and do the very best that I can”.

“Once I joined CTK, I was surprised to see how much they believed in me. My tutor saw something in me, and she suggested that I apply to Oxford or Cambridge. It had never crossed my mind to apply to Oxbridge.  To know that I will be studying at Cambridge, and to already see and feel the impact I’d like to make when I graduate, is testament to the belief that CTK has instilled in me during my time as a student here. Sometimes I can really doubt myself. My tutors have encouraged me and helped me all the way.

I have always been academic, but I don’t think I would be able to get to where I am without the help and support I have received – both during lessons and with the application process and practice interviews for Cambridge. I would honestly recommend CTK so much.”
