News from St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School

Harvest Festival

Once again this year St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery had a Harvest Festival with donations of food going to Ramsgate Salvation Army Food bank. This was held on Monday 30th September and as you can see by the wonderful display in the school hall our community was once again extremely generous with their donations of food.  In the centre of the display is a traditional bread wheat sheaf kindly made by Mr Hughes.

Mr Marshall together with our Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl packed all the food into boxes and The Salvation Army came in to collect the donated food, which will be distributed to those in need in Ramsgate.  We would like to thank our parents and community for their generosity; it will make a difference to so many.

As well as this, the school held a non-uniform day and raised £168.46 for (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD). Mr John Darby came into school to complete an assembly on the good work that they do.  All children demonstrated our school values of Inclusion, Knowledge and Thoughtfulness. Thinking of ourselves, the local community and the wider world.

New Head Boy/Deputy Head Boy and Head Girl/Deputy Head Girl – 2024-2025

During Collective Worship, a number of Year 6 children did a sterling job by standing up in front of the whole school and reading the speeches they had written, persuading the school why they wanted to become Head Boy or Head Girl. All the children spoke very clearly and passionately. The new Head boy and Head girl will help with the leadership of the school and be representing the school at events and when we have visitors. The whole school heard all the speeches and went straight back to class to vote. All the children in the school had one vote for Head Boy and one vote for Head girl. Mr Marshall (Headteacher) said, ‘The speeches were confident, articulate, meaningful and even some with a touch of humour. This process enabled all children to get used to a democratic election and prepare for job opportunities later in life. I am very glad to announce the election winners were: Head Boy: Tobiasz Head Girl: Marnie Deputy Head Boy: Hugh Deputy Head Girl: Daniela They will be joined by a selection of new prefects (Nancy, Corbyn, Cali, Dolce, Dominykas and Viktor) who will help with the running of the school and playing with the younger children on the playgrounds during lunchtime. Congratulations to all the children. We are very proud of you all.’

Our new ‘Forest Library’

Investing in St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School

Our Children’s Leadership Team meet termly with Mr. Marshall to discuss our school. Pupil voice is essential when it comes to improving our school. In the meetings we talk about our school strengths and areas for development. Last time the children were very keen to invest in the toilets and middle playground. Therefore, we have installed brand new junior girl toilets and infant boy toilets. We have also got our middle playground tarmacked for all our children to enjoy.  At St Ethelbert’s, we want to develop the love and enjoyment of reading. Therefore, we have created a Forest Library for all children to enjoy. Individuals, groups and a whole class of children can now choose a reading book, levelled for their reading age, and immerse themselves in the book while feeling like they are secluded in a forest. Thank you so much to Ronan Higginson (Countdown Champion 2023 and Ex pupil) who came into school to talk to the children and have his photograph with some of our school council members. He also completed a times table challenge with our Year 4 children. Thank you so much to Ronan for coming into school. Thank you so much to James Vandervord, Design and Manufacture who completed the work for us.
