Advent at St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School

At St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School in Canterbury, we have been busy in the lead up to Christmas with many different events.

Our whole school took part in the Nativity which was held at our parish church, St Thomas of Canterbury, which has become a tradition. The children enjoyed performing over 3 days to a packed church full of their parents, governors and the sisters from the convent in Hersden. Their singing was joyful and uplifting and their acting reflected the true meaning of Christmas.

We held a Christmas card competition between our 4 houses. It was a very difficult decision as there were so many amazing cards to choose from! The winners were presented with prizes at our weekly assembly.

A small group of children from Year 6 travelled to Hersden to entertain the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions with their joyful singing, where they received a warm welcome with the nuns enjoying their time talking to the pupils; many of the nuns were teachers. Our school choir took part in the Canterbury Schools Christmas Concert at the Gulbenkian Theatre and Year 5 took part in the St Nicholas Service at Canterbury Cathedral, bringing Christmas cheer to one and all.

On the last day of term, Father Christmas took time out of his busy schedule and visited our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes. The children were delighted with their gift from him!
