ATCRE FIRST NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Association of Teachers of Catholic Religious Education was formed in March 2018 with the support of the Catholic Education Service (CES) and is now an associate member of the National Board of Religious Inspectors and Advisers (NBRIA). The mission of the organisation was to provide a national representation and support specifically for teachers of Catholic religious education.

One of the initial aims of the organisation was to host a national conference for Catholic RE teachers. With a current membership of over 650, it is unsurprising that the event on Saturday 8th February 2020 is a sell out. It will take place at St Mary’s University, Twickenham with over 130 people in attendance. It is believed that this will be the largest national event for Catholic RE teachers in England and Wales.

Chair Matthew Dell

Bishop Alan Williams sm (Brentwood) will be delivering a keynote session along with over 20 other nationally and internationally recognised RE teachers, leaders, experts and academics. Mary Myatt, Michael Merrick, Phillip Robinson, Dr Leonardo Franchi and Prof Richard Rymarz are just some of these speakers.

Chair of ATCRE, Matthew Dell said, “I am incredibly excited about this event. The Committee have worked incredibly hard to ensure that this conference will be a significant and profound moment for Catholic RE in this country. This is an amazing opportunity for sharing, for learning and for networking. We have teachers travelling from all over England and Wales to be at this event.”

ATCRE will be leading the teacher consultations on the new Religious Education Curriculum Directory later in 2020. They will continue to work with the Religious Education Council of England and Wales (REC) and National Association of Teachers of RE (NATRE) to provide a voice for Catholic RE teachers.

Tickets have now sold out, but there is a waiting list upon request.
