Mayor Opens New School Library After Severe Flooding

The Mayor of Medway, Councillor Marian Nestorov and his wife, Mrs Liubov Nestorov, paid a visit to St. Benedict’s Catholic Primary School on Tuesday 15th October to officially open our much-anticipated new school library.

Just over a year ago, a heavy rainstorm caused the drainage system to overflow flooding the school building and damaging two thousand books, all the school computers, furniture and carpets in the school library, ICT suite, art cupboard and an office space.

The grand opening was undertaken by Medway Mayor Cllr Marian Nestorov, who was accompanied by his wife Mrs Liuboy Nestoroy.

Along with the task of cutting the ribbon, the Mayor met both the School Council and the Librarians who had many questions over afternoon tea!

Sarah McAlpine, Headteacher at St. Benedict’s, said, “The children were extremely proud to show the Mayor and Mayoress our lovely new space for reading, and the Mayor spoke to the children about the importance of reading and his own love of books especially fantasy stories.”

The children of St. Benedict’s have been frequent visitors to Lordswood Library whilst they waited for all the restoration works to be complete. A year later, the children cannot wait to use their own library.
